It was not left on, but I did pull it once when I ran the engine a month or so ago. Maybe it stretched, or started to break then? I have little experience with parking brake cables. Maybe I'll get the car up on ramps, and see what there is to see.

On a side note, I poked around my trunk, and while I could not see the wire, I was able to feel around and find the wire to release the gas door. The solenoid is not an issue with this car, but after reading about the wire release and not being able to see it, I was curious.

Stft will be all over during running, if the LTFT stays underneath 5% all is well.

A rust filled or frozen cable may have broken internally. When you pull the parking brake handle, there is a balancing bar for the 2 cables which will allow more movement to the parking brake cable trying to make up the broken/frozen cable slack.

Choke the front wheels and jack one side at the back at a time. Try turning the raised wheel. If you can great. Then pull the parking brake on and see if you can still turn that wheel. If you can, then it is frozen or broken, on a FWD usually at the mount just forward of the rear wheel.

Obviously then repeat with the other side.

I have written up how to adjust the parking brakes several times here. I disagree with the 5-8 clicks. 4-5 max. Otherwise the parking brake lever ends up sitting too high and likely does not get fully activated by those not in the know.

Adjust the rear shoes on the drums to hard on and then unclick 1-2 clicks so the wheel moves freely. Then adjust the other cable end in the car at the parking brake handle as above.

Thanks, I still have to do this. I was hoping to get to it over the weekend, but did not. I've been driving the car in town, and it finally occurred to me that if the parking brake is dragging, I'm wearing the shoes and inner drum on the disc, so I'll refrain from driving it to work (100 mile trip). I don't noticed it being difficult to take off from a standstill, Though.
