Installed badly needed new struts on the 95 R. I don't even know what these old ones were, the label is no help, they were on the car when I got it. One of them was leaking oil. I got this car for $150 from a guy 3 blocks away after he posted on MVS it had a blown engine and he was giving up on it. Only time ever I've seen someone from my town on here. Six years later almost everything done, I tend to wait until things break to fix them. Although the valve stem seals have started to leak :evil: :cry:

Honestly, this is my first post ...ever, how inviting. To answer the question, I looked at my 1998 S70 T5T (manual trans) and realized that she doesn't have a name yet. Guess I should start there. I did start her up and listened for any new noises and got her warmed up. Then, I moved on to my daily driver and did a quick winter check / prep. After that, I walked down back and checked on the V70R. Just to make sure she was in the same condition that I left her in. Yep, All is good. The rest of them are on the road today so, I will wait until they get back from their adventures. Thats what I did.

I picked up a cheap '99 XC ("needs starter") with a third row with the intention of swapping them into my '00 V70 MT, but it's so nice inside and out that I wondered whether I should fix it up.

Plugging in the code reader, three issues came up: P1618, P0238 and P0605.

Either way, the third row is already a hit with our three kids, so even if I don't get to save this XC, or the engine, it seems like a win.

Ive got a like new starter for you Bruno

Lets get the real ECM codes from that Puppy - those mapped codes probably arent right.

VOLVO generates ECM codes - VIDA always reads them right

Scanners have a software map that maps Volvo to Pxxx codes, the generic ones like P0455 map fine, the manufacturer specific codes

P1xxs and P2xxx usually don't map correctly.

My 1999 used to tell me Cylinder 8 misfire a lot on my scanner.

That P1618 is a communication error between the ECM and TCM. May be a wiring issue (not as scary as it sounds) but from the sounds of that P0605 code the TCM may be shot. Cheap enough at the junkyard to try one.
The other code is likely unrelated to the other two, but you never know. I'd start by replacing the TCM. Are the TCMs in ME7 cars married to the VIN like the ECU? I'm not sure.

My elm327 bt OBDII reader arrived today. Got to play with it a little along with xiaotec's 850 OBDII app. It's cool being able to scan and read ALL the codes. Seems to be DTCs set by everything accept the ABS (thanks mattymoo). :roll: Might post a screenshot later.

And a new code has joined my old friends. Now setting a P0172, too rich. Acceleration is still good, cruises fine, but it does smell a little rich at idle. Idle also seems a tad high. Guess I'm looking for another split vacuum line again.

The 1605 code is just the ECM telling you the TCM is bad.

Put on the T5 winter shoes for a Boston trip tomorrow in weather.

Replaced the two M6 plastic nuts holding the plastic trim in passenger wheel well

Gave the E83 a vicious case of lawn mower syndrome moving it in driveway. Took 30 seconds cranking with foot down to clear. I could here the compression change as the oil slowly raised compression on cranking. Ran like crap and tripped a CEL for5 minutes on way to work

It all started with wanting a sub.

I finally found the one: a 12in powered sub for about $120 by rockford fosgate. No amp needed. Just power and ground. That install was normal, nothing fancy, just a remote wire connected to front cig lighter. (Note: if I power the cig lighter lighter, with the car off, the radio/ac gets power. Not sure if its safe or not, but no key is needed. I found this out when I accidentally powered the remote wire with my 2nd battery during install)

The deep cycle 2nd battery is xxxxtra... I have an inline breaker separating from the main battery that I can open and close by hand when exiting the car so that one battery wont drain the other if something is left on.
This 2nd battery will eventually power an extensive LED light system, I intend to leave on overnight night.
But, it can also be used for camping.... I have a small 140W inverter, but may get a bigger one soon.

The radio install is normal, but I did drill a hole in the plastic cover near the rearview mirror, and added a rubber grommet that I could push the mic snugly into. I wired it along the passenger side using the entire length of wire.

I tapped the running light wires from behind the blinker lights on one side (can post pics if yall wanna see) and added an LED strip facing in, along the top and inside edge of each headlight. Theyre connected across the grille (the strip is 5M long) which adds a cool glow in the middle. I just used masking tape on the headlights, because the hood covers the edge when closed, and its flexible to bend and stick tight and easy to remove or replace.
I tapped the blinker and the running light wires, but only used the running light so far.

End effect: my headlights appear illuminated when just the running lights are on. As a delivery driver, it comes in handy and looks cooler than those audi drls... Lol

The air horn was placed below the battery. It is loosely zipped tied to the lower radiator hose and zip tied again a bit tighter on the subframe. Its one of four wires i pulled thru the subframe hole Volvo conveniently made just for us. Not sure what Ill do with the rest, but they're there now.

I added another dual usb charger on the back of the middle arm rest, near the floor of the back seat. Its powered from the battery in the back, and I just vecro'd it in place and used plug connectors on the wires so it could be easily removed or replaced if damaged... Or if I wanna use those wires to power something else.

Next im going to add a RGB led strip under the car. Im just gonna put hooks around the perimeter of the bottom, put the led strip in a clear tube, and wire it thru the hooks (closed hooks of course). This way, I can easily remove it for state inspection or replacement if necessary.

Im gonna add some running lights (led strip) along the edge of the roof racks, with a dedicated switch. I have a light sensor I may install with it or my original drl system

Also, i found a universal washer pump system for 15 bucks on ebay... I may set it up in the back to 'cool off' hot headed drivers crowding me. Im thinking a sugary sulfur water mixture should be harmless enough to not get me fined..... 😇
Wow, that looks like some serious work man! Nicely done! Can you - or anyone on this forum - help me out with a question about audio in my S70? Here's the thing. The speakers in the car work fine, I think quality of the sound is just perfect. But, I miss some bass in the sound but... I don't see me installing a big subwoofer and amplifier in the trunk of the car. Is there some... midway? Like a small subwoofer and amplifier in one device that I don't know about?

I should've mentioned, too: The dash is also lit up like a xmas tree, including a flashing up arrow.
