Hi, good to see the Queen City represented here! I'm in Kannapolis, and have just purchased (probably for way too much) a 1999 S70 GLT. I will start a thread and put a link here. Amazing how many common problems can be found here (key doesn't work in door, gear shift button won't fully release, so ignition thinks not in park, faded HL reflectors...)
Hope to be able to get together with you all sometime or swap some parts!
Scott

Registered the car finally, and I've been driving it around all weekend. She's a great runner! The biggest problem as of right now are the shocks and struts. I have them on the way right now, I'll probably be putting those in this weekend.
Otherwise, the car runs and drives beautifully. A little squealing from the brakes, but no big deal. I plan on changing those out soon. It's definitely a very solid car, though. Even with the creaking struts, the ride is pretty smooth.

I just read through your thread. You did a fantastic job with that rebuild. I wanted to ask your advice on a rebuild I will be starting in the distant future (never too early to plan and research). A little over a year ago my 850 was caught in a nasty tornado and has some cosmetic damage to the font and sides as well as damage to the passenger side A pillar and the roof around the windshield. I wanted to know you opinion on correcting the roof and pillar damage. I was thinking I could use a creatively placed bottle jack and lumber to push from inside the vehicle outward. Here is a link to some pictures.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Some of these were taken right after the tornado and the rest were taken nearly a year later when all I had to do was replace the battery and she started right up and drove herself out of there after sitting for 2 years.

Thanks! Yeah, I remember seeing your post in the "What did you do to your Volvo today?" thread. These cars will take a beating!ZionXIX wrote:I just read through your thread. I think the bottle jack idea could actually work pretty well. As long as you are patient and go slow, I think you could pop that a-pillar straight again. Well, close to it, at least.
I'm not a body guy at all, but the body work is surprisingly forgiving. I was able to bend my fender back for the, most part, pretty easily. Just some hammering and pulling.

While I'm thinking about it, I'll go ahead and post newer pics over here. It's been a while since I've updated this thread...
The car was painted back in October/November, and I have done plenty of work on it since then. I just did the brakes finally 2 weeks ago, I did the struts/shocks not long after my last post, the passenger side motor mount, oil cooler lines twice, and several other things I'm probably forgetting.
The car is running great, I'm about to cross over 175k miles today and it was been fantastic. I still have lots of things I need to get done as far as maintenance, then the performance goodies start.
The only thing I have on there right now is my home-made manual boost controller. I'm very happy with it, and it works great. I have the boost around 9-10 psi right now and the car pulls much better than the stock 5-6 psi. I plan to replace the MBC with a tune eventually, along with a 16t, blue injectors, Snabb intake, OBX downpipe, and possibly (probably) more. Hopefully an M56 swap as well.

Finding junkyard cars in my color seems to be next to impossible in my area. I will definitely need to repaint in the future. What did your paint job cost if you dont mind me asking?bmdubya1198 wrote:While I'm thinking about it, I'll go ahead and post newer pics over here. It's been a while since I've updated this thread...

I paid around $140-$150 for my paint from automotivetouchup.com. My dad has painted cabinets professionally for a long time now and has done a few cars, so he was able to do all the painting himself and save me a few bucks.ZionXIX wrote:Finding junkyard cars in my color seems to be next to impossible in my area. I might have to try that. I like learning new skills with my project cars.
