This is what my filter looked like. Also had the classical whining pump noise from being starved.
Worth to mention though is that this was caused by broken hard parts that caused one clutch pack to burn up.
Edit:
It took a long time before any codes showed up.

SLU controls TCC: 200 mA unlock, ~500 mA - controlled slip, 1A - fully locked.precopster wrote: ↑05 Nov 2017, 15:17 TCC solenoid is one of the smaller ones. Do you have documentation to identify it?

Thanks Mecheng. The big tell-tale was that I could get it going again with compressed air down the cooling line. Without that I would have scrapped it.
I've had to retighten the clamps at the filter a couple of times and top up fluid due to small leaks but otherwise all good.

Well now it's not working again but at least it moves. I got 60 miles of driving with it. But now it's stuck in 2nd gear and transmission errors P0731 and P0733 and P0734 1st, 3rd and 4th gear range errors.
I recently purchased an actual full flow inline transmission filter that I will put in line with the transmission cooler. And then I'll also try another drain and flush and perhaps punch even more holes in the internal filter.

Personally, I would find a used transmission or sell the car. No amount of fluid is going to fix the hardware damage. Why put more money into it.vt9000cse wrote: ↑10 Nov 2017, 07:58 Well now it's not working again but at least it moves. I got 60 miles of driving with it. As you didn't have a transmission track record as I did with mine it sounds more like it needs to be opened up for parts replacement.
If fluid has good flow you should stop suspecting the pump. Mine has enough pressure that it can't be blocked off by placing a thumb over the hose with engine running.

Folks,
Early in the thread it was asked if a solvent was available for getting stuff out of the transmission.
Documented in the following thread was my experience.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37906&p=340409&hili ... vo#p340409
My 04 V70 now has 217K on it and still running strong.
Disclaimer: I just maintain my own vehicles and educate thru this and other forums before tackling uncharted territory. I have no connection to the solvent mentioned in thread, just resolved my issue. It would be good if someone else attempted the procedure to see if it is a generic repair for fluid/contaminate/sludge related problems or just a one off in my case.
Thanks to those that share their problems and solutions.
