So, following up on the long bolt issue. I thought the bolt looked familiar. Looking through my parts stash I found 2 bolts, one which is identical and the other has a larger washer on it. The large mounting bolts had been damaged by the junkyard, I am assuming by lifting the vehicle under the sub-frame mounts
I am no longer clear where on a P80 these came from, but one has a larger washer than the other. The smaller washer id the one I pulled from the front of the C70 chassis brace and also passes through the rear engine/suspension sub-frame mounts:
Large washer bolt may be from an AWD rear sub-frame/jacking point. Bolt however is identical.
Center bolt may be a standard sub-frame bolt. It is identical to the ones pulled from the chassis brace from the 04 C70
Right bolt is the one from the brace. You can see the file marks I needed to make to get the socket to fit due to damage.
Hope this information is of help
Neil.

Before seeing the specs I was mouse counting the threads
. The difference in washer size is the location of the bolt. You have the longer bolts if you count threads or it measures 120mm. Both the S70 and C70 use the same 120mm bolt. Again, the difference in washer is due to the location of the each bolt?
So does this mean there is no such thing as a longer bolt for the sub-frame brace? I will find out when I install mine, unfortunately not anytime soon

The front bolts are longer. The brace is 20-25mmm thicker than the regular plates that are attached at the rear SF mount location.

Like I said, but maybe not clearly enough, the other bolts I have pulled from P80's but probably AWD models so may be from the rear sub-frame area. Not sure about the different washer sizes though as I can only thing of the long bolt in the rear jacking point on AWD's.
So unless the wrong bolts were fitted on the C70 I pulled the frames from I need to check the length of the ones I have. The frame is thicker but not 20-25mm at the bolt point. It is dished and countersunk. I will take pictures and measurements later.
Not saying the bolts are or are not different, I just don't have a bolt that I can confirm is from a standard car front subframe for length. All I can say is that bolt I pulled is fitted elsewhere on some P80 models.
Neil.

Here are a few pictures that may help to understand what this is about. I have added a few pictures below of the actual brace(s) and their attachment holes:
C70 -P80 chassis brace:
The upturned 'V' brace fits with the point of the V in the middle of the engine sub-frame at the front support. It has 3 holes drilled into the sub-frame bar and 3 riv-nuts installed to bolt to. The ends of the V are bolted to the back corners of te rear section of the engine sub-frame. Unfortunately I didn't notice if these were also drilled and riv-nuts or if they went into existing un-used bolt holes. 5 bolts in total. I have linked a thread on Swedespeed which shows the V brace attached to the sub-frame:
https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/thou ... rs.601193/
This is the rear brace. The front 'legs' attach in place of the triangular braces on a standard car and then the cross piece faces rearwards. I can't find any pictures of it installed.
I think this uses the 4 bolt holes that the AWD cars use for their prop-shaft and may already be in the floor of FWD cars and redundant. Does mean this brace may not be able to be used on AWD cars.
Above are the 4 rear mounting bolts. On a FWD car I think this may be where the center bearing support for the propshaft bolts to on an AWD car?
The other issue is the 2 shorter bolts for the chassis brace are also longer than the standard ones. You can see the difference in thickness above in the picture.
The long/large chassis brace hole is about 12mm thick on the chassis brace where the tandard brace is only about 2-3mm (thickness of the place material). So there is a 10mm approximately difference in thickness between the 2 large/long bolt holes. When the long bolt is inserted from the wrong side the un-threaded section is covered.
These bolts pulled from the chassis brace on the C70 are 120mm long (less the thickness of the washer).
Hopefully this is not too confusing and helps possibly with some clarity.
Neil.
