Re: 2000 S70 Timing Belt + Water Pump questions

Post by Mn10 »

Just a small update until maybe later this weekend (plus a question).

Last weekend I got the water pump + timing belt done. It was not as straight forward as I was hoping (things would not come off etc). Even when I went to put the belt back on, the cam sprockets moved. As far as my understanding of this goes, as long as I realigned the sprockets with the markings and put the belt on (the VVT side was very easy to move, so I had to get a little smart with that), everything should be ok.

Question. Am I correct assuming the above?
I realigned the cam sprockets with the markings, put the timing belt back on, and rotated the engine twice clockwise & the markings still line up (all 3 still line up - cam sprockets + crank).

I haven't fired up the engine yet.

This weekend I have to do the oil, fill and flush the coolant, and then it should be good to go.

If the marks line up when you hand crank the engine, it’s safe. It will pop a P0014 code after a few starts if the settings are off by more than a tooth.
