The failure code is : P0016 or (643A) ECM-643A : Cam Position - exhaust: Signal too low

This is where the thread started. I think it would appear to be ok. I will re-test on Monday when I hope to get the new aftermarket sensor for comparison and update here.

The other point I realized I had not picked up from the video is the car they were testing on had 2 cam position sensors, one per/bank. Perhaps that is why I am seeing the 2 x 5V readings as my car has only one sensor?

theres a sensor for each cam, so theres two sensors, intake sensor is the easiest to test, exh is buried..
if the sensor was faulty you wouldnt even get that 643a code.

Where is the inlet sensor? This 02 car only has CVVT on the exhaust side and there is a solid black cover over the inlet cam end with no wires coming out of it? Later cars have inlet and exhaust cam CVVT, but not this one.

So what on earth is the failure code telling us? I will retest the static tests with the new sensor on Monday and if all is the same, re-install the original and put that away for now as an issue. I will do the oil and filter change before re-looking at this and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks again.

Yup, that it I did know. I'll revisit this tomorrow when the new part arrives and see if thee is any change in how it works. If not, the old one is going back in.
