I believe that one of my plastic tabs is broken. I gently tightened down the four bolt and the bolt farthest to the passenger side turned easily and that's where the squeek is located. How do I replace that one plastic tab?
Thanks,

Unfortunately the whole dash needs to come out to get to any of the mounts and make a proper repair. Keep track of the pieces if you decide to go that route. Once the dash is out it is an epoxy and reinforcement method. Others have tried fiberglass patches to hold thing back together but I don't really know the success rate.dukedms wrote:I believe that one of my plastic tabs is broken. I've seemed to notice all 850's have their own dash issues. Mine isn't really squeaky per say, but I wonder if this symptom is worth anything of note- a few of the torx screws around the inner door frame (open the glove box door they are the screws [six total] that connect the actual "box" to the dash) have separated from their original holes. I guess this must be happening from the actual dash moving around, even slightly, over time. Would this be a sign of loose bolts under the cowl or broken dash tabs? Again I'd have to say my dash isn't really that noisy, maybe over a pretty rough road- and there are plenty in Chicago-but otherwise it doesn't make any alarmingly loud noises. Just curious! Thanks

Just last week I replaced the dash pad with one from a parts yard car. The original owner must have took great care of this dash. It felt like it still had armor all, or some other protectant still on it. Anyway, I made sure when reinstalling the dash pad to physically hold the dash together tightly while replacing screws. As opposed to letting the screws pull the gaps together. I found this served to line the fitment better as well as to not stress the fastening points and possibly make for a loose fit (squeaky) later. The dash is pretty quiet for now.Volvo4251 wrote:I've seemed to notice all 850's have their own dash issues. I've probably had the glove box out a dozen times now for various reasons. At this point I don't think any of the screws are actually holding the box to the frame itself anymore, but more or less keeping it positioned. The plastic under the screws is pretty much gone. Though I don't believe it is the cause of any of the other noises I was hearing. I have three glove boxes I've brought home from the yards, and they are all like that to some extent.

Until I can get in there and fix my dash with some bolts, washers and loc-tite, I just used a tie-down to stop all the annoying squeaking.
I'll post pics of what I did tonight.

Rubber vacuum hose between steering column and dash. Loosen column adjust, insert tube, push up on steering wheel , lock. Thanks to a poster on Volvospeed for this one. Working for my S70 which clearly had driver side mounts broken but other side ok. Tried this thread's tightening of four bolts under wiper cowl. No change. You can't make stupid design flaws go away, but this trick may work for you until you decide another course of action.
