I just read this for the first time. I know in my 850 wagon and my xc70,I could loosen the emergency brake cable in the interior of the car to loosen the emergency brake pads enough to get the brake drum off. Inside the center console/arm rest between the seats, there are L shaped cover inside held by 2 screws that you remove to access the emergency cable brake adjuster. You just back the nut of . You can see it on the end of the emergency brake lever. Just loosen it and it loosens the adjustment of the cable.I think the adjusting nut you are loosening is on the top of the drum and by loosening the cable ,you are loosening the bottom of the pads. Either way it is loosening the pads but I think it is easier from inside the car.
