I followed the directions and it worked perfect- thanks!
Why does that light come on? What are you suppose to have checked?
My car has 69,000 miles on it- should it have come on at this time?
Thank you to Matt for this website- it is so helpful!

Hi suzettet2,
It's to remind you of the car's maintenance intervals (to take to a Volvo dealer, they hope).
Your maintenance schedule is in your owners manual or go here:

Hi everyone I have a 1998 V40 and I also have the service light problem. I tried the odometer meter but unfortunately it doesnt work on my model. I looked through this part and found a guy who had the same problem as me and he figured out that only Official Volvo Dealers could sort the problem but that was 2 years ago and I wondered if anyone had found a new way of sorting this out
Hi.
I have a 98mod V70, and this procedure is not working for me... Anyone have other suggestions? That is to ask, did anyone successfully do this for a 98mod. V70? Any feedback is greatly appreachiated! Appologize for any spelling mistakes

Notice that the first post says only on S/V40...you have a 70 series, thus your problem. Only a special tool will reset it on your car. Look for "Draper Reset Tool" on eBay. They usually are there. That's what I bought and it works great on my '98 S70.

Used this today on my 2005 S40 T5, and it worked. The key part is that you need to release the trip reset as soon as the "light" starts flashing, Thanks, jsnyder, if you are still out there !jsnyder wrote:All models for 1999 and on can be reset by putting the ignition key into position I, push in and hold the odometer reset button (use your left hand), move the ignition key to position II, when the service light begins to blink, let go of the odometer reset button. Confirm by turning your Volvo off then on again.

I have a '96 V50 and the following works for me:
To reset the "time for regular service" message, the steps are:
- turn the ignition key to position I
- then press and hold the odometer reset button
- turn the key to position II
- hold the odometer reset button until the “I” message icon flashes
- quickly release the reset button and then turn the key to the off position.
