I don't understand how the hoses fasten to the filter tubes. Is there some sort of slide clamp that needs to be released? I seem to recall a poster writing about hose damage at that point. How likely is that?

Thanks much for posting this. Just did it last night, Fuel filter was last changed at 117,689 according to the writing on it. Car is running loads better already.

JimBee--- Yes, the fittings slide back to release from the nipples on the fuel filter.

+1 No hose clamps, just pull them off the filter. I suppose it is possible for them to be brittle but mine were nearly perfect.

I did well with steps 1 and 2 by loosening the 12mm bracket nut and removing the hose fitting from one end (right side, in-flow) from the fuel filter, but instead of simply removing the hose fitting from the left side (out-flow) end of the filter I went all caveman and tried to pull the filter out of the bracket while the left side hose was still attached. It resulted in me snapping the section of the hose that connected to this coupler/bracket at the other end of the hose fitting.

This is with the hose off of the fuel filter.

This is a dealer only part because Auto Zone and Pep Boys does not carry it. What is this part called? Should I just bite the bullet and let a mechanic replace it or is this a part that can be easily replaced? Thank you in advance for any advise.

I'm sure this has been mentioned somewhere before, but I used the interior trim tool to push the lines off the filter. They slide off so easy it made me wonder how they ever seal!

Thought I'd mention it in case it helps someone out there. I love this website as it's helped me alot!

This be pretty much the same for a 1998 V70 AWD LPT? Same location and tools?

For anyone out there having trouble getting the "quick release" to release at all, I found that a ball joint separator puts the quick back in the process.

No problems in the 2 months since I swapped out the fiter. It's the third filter in my '97 850's life (111k miles).
