How do I retrieve the correct mileage on 1996 850
How did you reset your odometer?bankrum wrote: ↑07 Dec 2018, 12:21 Thanks to Mashmash and the posted tip for purchasing the BAFX bluetooth OBD reader and 850 OBD-II android app, I too have retrieved the true miles for my 1996 850 and subsequently repaired the odometer and reset it to true miles. This was a great tip.
During the odometer repair process, I found that the small plastic gear was NOT broken. Rather, it was simply "stuck" or frozen on its shaft. I replaced both gears nonetheless and it is now working like new.
Thanks again to Mashmash!

You can use a pencil with eraser hooked onto a drill e.g. Others have forced the gears to the right place but I don't recommend that.

OK - I've looked everywhere and this seems the best place to ask. I have replaced my odometer gears and am trying to reset the mechanical wheels to the actual mileage. I bought an EPROM reader to download the 93S56 memory contents from the instrument cluster which should contain the actual mileage info, and now have the HEX info. I thought I had heard that you could then decode the HEX and get the mileage. I understand that there are shady characters out there that could manipulate this data to their advantage, so because of that I can't find the location and how to decode this HEX dump. Is there someone or a service who can decode it for me so I can reset my odometer? I don't need to know the actual EPROM data location, I just would like to know the decoded mileage. I can send the HEX dump to you...
Thanks,
Mark

While I don't know if the data you got from the EPROM reader will compare to the way I got mine from the cluster, check out this old thread viewtopic.php?t=61976 . My post (4th from the top) tells you how to decode HEX (base 16) as well as which numbers to use. Good luck.

Get a bluetooth obd2 dongle, and the obd850 app. It'll give you the mileage to the nearest 10 miles (no idea why it doesn't do the one's digit).

It looks like you should have repeated the B90300 command when you got the "Request timeout or failure" response as you did earlier in the string with ATL1 and ATH1. The response to that command should contain the mileage data.Rometsch wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025, 18:16 Thanks VERY MUCH for the links - I tried this and got this result...Any ideas?
