Thanks for the idea, is that a Turbo or just wheels off of one? Where you located?

At this point I need to find something that will be a DD for my daughter. Part of me doesn't want to touch a car for a while, I think because it'll feel odd that I'm doing a job I "just did" to another car. I did so much work on it that I feel worn out just thinking about digging into something new. And without a heated garage, there's no way I want to think about doing any maintenance work in the next few months! Such a quandry I'm in...

I can relate to the "just been there and done that".
It's a turbo which spins up freely. I had the intake hose off last month and spun it up with my fingers, spins freely and I don't see any oil leaks. This is the only automatic 850 I've driven, and haven't driven a turbo before, but it seems very responsive starting from a stop. I haven't driven it hard, but it accelerates smoothly and spiritedly with a light right foot.
I'm in Minneapolis.
I didn't realize those are turbo wheels :) Two are very clean, one has some finish missing, other one so so.

Stopped to look at the red wagon that showed up at the gas station around the block from me. The guy claims he paid $50 for a '97 R wagon (my wife was not there but doesn't believe him). It has platinum wheels on it. Body looks real good.

! I would gladly buy a car like that for $50.

I wonder what demons were lurking underneath though...

hmmm, I'm in the market for a good, used auto - and I have a tender spot for bright red wagons!

Just had the car towed to my garage and got my first look at it. 'Dr. Brutal' also stopped by to take a peek and thinks the damage is actually not too bad. The engine didn't get touched (and Shannon seems to recall the engine was still running after the strike) and the radiator didn't spring a leak. I have to clean off all the plastic bits that shattered and I haven’t pulled the wheel off to inspect the suspension bits, but I may just toy with the idea of getting it repaired. I'll dig a little more into it and keep an open mind.

One thought I had was that the strut brace actually helped keep the damage to a minimum, so you all might want to get one installed as a safety device!

That's some good news at least, I would pull the rad and check it though as my car had a light hit on the side and two years later the rad broke, when I pulled it I dicovered a chunk was broken off of it and that is where it cracked

I agree with the strut brace recommendation. I did install one after my front end collision for reinforcement to the unibody straightening that was needed.

I also thought mine was beyond repair until I brought it home. When I saw it go on the flatbed I was crushed.

Best of luck.
