I'm buying another at s70 in the morning. it's black 5 speed manual sunroof, 161,000 miles. 1400 dollars. the guy says it's good to go and needs nothing daily driver excetera. I think I'll change the timing belt just in case. I hope my red one doesn't get jealous. it's going to be so weird having 2 of the same car. I think I'll make them compete in daily all out fist fights in the driveway to see which one gets to be taking care of and which one gets to be truly driven.

Not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings here, but I think this thread is becoming a little boring. So I feel the need to say the 850 sedan is not my idea of a nice looking car. To me it is just so obvious that this series was styled primarily as a wagon and the sedan is just an afterthought created by chopping a hunk out of the back end. In fact the last Volvo that looked any good as a sedan was the 144 ... just my opinion of course.
If God had meant cars to have fuel injection, he never would have given us the SU carburetter

We bought our first Volvo in 2000 as the daily driver for Mom with two little kids
v70 T5 wagon, FwD with 5 speed. She's not your usual Mom.
9 years later, we replaced her with an X3, but I couldn't bring myself to sell the car. With the help of this forum, the later in life repairs have been made manageable, and I just came back from 6 hours day trip to Boston and back feeling like I haven't driven a bit. 26 mpg at 70 mph.

after recently picking up and 95 325i convertible, I have really come to appreciate the Volvo even more. sure it may not be as pretty as a BMW convertible but it is a good looking cute car and it is reliable and it runs like a top. who takes the time to chime in on a thread that they proclaim as boring. like the negativity is really going to spice up the attitude here.

Speak for yourself. I think the S70 is a great looking sedan. I liked the rear of the 96-97 850's a lot too.Jono51 wrote:Not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings here, but I think this thread is becoming a little boring. yeah man, BMW has never made a better one than the E36
All I know is Volvo is a high- end brand that Americans are sleeping on so I'm trying to snatch up as many as I can while the resale value of these ultra sexy cars is still at the bottom of the barrell.
Just goes to show that the media can make you beleive anything, anything like Mercedes is the best built car from overseas...YEAH RIGHT!...I beg to differ. I have to go with Volvo and BMW as the top dogs coming from across the pond.
The saftey, driveability and styling Mercedes only wins with the Gullwing and SEC. but the Volvo "Brick" and the BMW "Shark" kicks the Mercs butt in all categories

Porsche only helped with the valve timing and tuning. They had nothing to do with the design effort and the white-block 4/5/6-cyl configuration was entirely a Volvo design.Motor Trends had a nice nice article about the 1993 850 being the first FWD, with engine built by Porsche engineers as Volvo engineers could not figure out how to squeeze a 5-bangers into a transverse mount configuration.
