when buying a used ETM what will work without a reprogram?

Do you have a failing Electronic Throttle Module? What steps to take if you do, plus the latest ETM news. Volvo 1999-2002 models only please.

I don't think unplugging the MAF will eliminate the MAF code though it may run a little better if the MAF is the bad part.

Sounds more like a loose hose......especially around the ETM

I have purchased a used ETM that was manufactured in 2018 and pulled from the exact same car and engine as the failing ETM a V70 1999 5 cylinder non turbo. What are the chances that it will not need to be reprogrammed ? Thanks Scott in MA.

About one in four, chances are far greater if both vehicles have been back to the dealer post 2006 for software update.

Hello

I had problems with my ETM.

I have install one with the same reference, and it works, but I think it isnt fine enought, is it possible?? May a reprograming software fix it?? Or if the software is not reprogramed it doesn't work at all??

PD. Sorry for my english

Has anyone actually installed a ETM off a same year car and it worked without programming?

I just replaced my etm in my 2001 v70xc turbo with a same year from u pull it. Goes like a rocket but new code91B7 (throttle position at rest )and dang “engine system service required” msg for first time. Have Vida and replaced the sensor with sacer. Can I use Vida to erase this msg or go get etm number 3? Shame it runs great idle a tiny bit high. Hate going to dealer rather do it myself. Any others with same issue? Thanks from Albuquerque👋👋

Vida will scrub the code, you can also check your work and see how close your sensors match.

The best solution to ETM based problems now is the late 2014 Volvo built contact less unit, on eBay for $150 or so for the patient.

Thank you! It’s my first post to you guys after reading all your helpful advice. Still have the 91B7 code but idle and acceleration great. Sweep test good. Just still have the engine system service required message. Grrr...
