Car had a hard time starting today and when it did the running was the worst its been, 2 starting attempts failed with immediate stall, third time reved to 2000 and tried to hold but revs dropped and stalled, few more attempts got it going but took about a mile before it settled down.
Lucky I start work early so I didn't get in anyones way as that first mile was very slow and quite jumpy, I didn't get any codes but this seems like a fueling issue with the hard starting, I might be wrong but I didn't think the 02 sensor would affect starting or the fuel ratio till its warmed up is this right?
Had a play with the code reader I unplugged maf, threw maf low voltage code, unplugged front o2 got the p1133 again and heater voltage code for that sensor, unplugged rear o2 and got a voltage code relating to that sensor also so i know im needing a new front sensor but disappointed that I can't read data on the fuel pressure or fuel level so im thinking that if there's an issue with fueling the reader wont pick it up.
Can the o2 cause hard starting like this or am I looking at a new fuel pump or a possible leak in the system? The drive home from work was fine no problems starting, got home left it a few hours and tried to start with nothing after 5-10 seconds of cranking, I turn key off then to position 2 a few time as this primes the fuel line and it started a little iffy but settled after a few seconds, only code I got was the p1133 again but im pretty sure its not checking the fuel system so might need to get a pressure gauge unless I can find the volvo pid for the fuel pressure
exhaust emissions lamda reading outside limits
Thanks again for the help but im affraid it seems its all been a waste of time and money.
forced limp mode today and turned the engine off and waited 5 minute, then scanned the ecu and got p1133 again but also got 0121 and 1608, from what i understand the last code is ecu related, this looks like the end of the road for me now, cheers again guys keep the the good work going. Jim

Well the problem is pretty much sorted, I nearly gave up thinking the problem was with the ecu but thankfully to this site and the top notch advise I have got I attempted fitting the contactless sensor to the etm.
results are amazing not once has it gone into limp mode since fitting and I've really tried to make it happen, also nice feeling what these cars have to give, though I feel its not all she has to give im thinking running it like it was for so long it probably just needs a really good service which is my next job.
some pictures of the install.

After fitting it all back together it started straight up after warming up I took it for a spin and at first I got a little hesitation/jerkyness which had previously been gradually happening.
I let It settle then put my foot down and although I had full use of the gears I couldn't feel the turbo boosting, got around the corner tried again and then finally felt it boost with a roar form the engine and a massive smile on my face, 5 miles later it was still boosting/driving fine.
After I stopped I noticed the message engine system service urgent had appeared, ran the code reader but no codes were given, I cleared the ecu anyway and in 2 days of giving it what shes got I haven't seen this message again, could it have been the car settling in?
Either way I cannot thank enough those who's had input on this problem it really has got the job done, if you're ever in poole let me know and I'll get the pints in, thanks again guys
