This is exactly why I always buy OEM parts. Independent mechanics will install the cheapest aftermarket parts they can buy because this will increase their profit from the repair and make the customer happy because he didn't have to pay much for the repair. If you go to Indy mechanic, at least buy OEM parts and make sure that he doesn't steal them for himself and put in aftermarket ones instead, or sometimes does not replace them at all (you may never know it). The ideal would be to stand there and watch him do the work. Never install aftermarket parts into your Volvo (with a few exceptions for few non-critical components). It is a waste of time and money. Even some of the OEM parts are not as good as the original ones from the factory.

You need to check timing marks. Get a new pump (Aisin WPV-800) and a new belt, OEM INA tensioner and INA OEM pulley as they have been under stress.
Refit them all and time the engine. Then do a compression test. If numbers are low or hardly even there you know the head must come off for bent valves.

Greetings. I'll install water pump and pulleys this weekend and re time the engine and compression check. If numbers are bad , this maybe the end of my Swedish experience.

I would not waste my time with installing any parts if I were you. Also, you car likely has CVVT stuff and will require special tools, equipment and skills to time that motor correctly. Pull the head or cut bait.

A water pump failure with 16,000 miles on it. That company should pay for a motor rebuild.clifford06 wrote:Car has 142k miles. Replaced TB, water pump at 126k, 3k after purchase.

No special tools required to time a CVVT motor, even if it's dual CVVT. Just set the pre-load which you can find plenty of threads here about.
If you rebuild the engine you'll need a new timing set anyhow. If you buy a used engine you'll want to transfer & fit the timing set there.
If you plan on getting rid of the vehicle that's an entirely different story.
