I went looking for the evap large leak, and found it! Both hoses to the purge valve were torn, and now replaced

Nice looking engine bay.
Can you feel a difference in driving dynamics with the strut tower brace or is it mostly pretty looking?

Not at this point because the struts are 15 years old, ball joints, bushings, end links and tie rods are all worn. All near-new parts will be installed soon along with my IPD sway bars...then it makes a difference

Personally I am not a fan of the IPD anti-sway bars. One of the previous owners fitted them to my 2000 V70R and particularly the front ones are a real pain as they expect you to remove and re-grease the front bushes every 6 months to prevent them groaning. I have fitted new bushes and removed and re-greased them multiple times and can't get more than 100km before the groaning returns. Also going to remove their HD front end links as they are already loose on the ball ends after only 6000 km. I am replacing with Mayle HD end-links, and the bushes with Energy Suspension bushes as recommended by others who have had the same issue.

Best thing is they have grease nipples so no removal required!
If that doesn't work then I am having it removed altogether and re-fitting a Volvo OE part but from an V70 XC (21.5mm dia) rather than an 'R' one that is 21mm.

I eat up a set of sway bar bushings every two years. I've never had a squeaking or groaning issue. When I swap the bar over to the S70, I will drill & tap the bushing strap for a grease fitting and see if they last longer. Plus, greasing them will push out road grit and salt that find their way in

Well today I chose NOT to install the front IPD sway bar. The nuts and studs on the power steering rack are very corroded, and when I removed the bar from my '96 (which were also corroded) the pressed in studs spun in the rack housing. Not a good situation!
I did install the Koni yellow strut & shocks while keeping the sedan's front springs. Control arms and Meyle HD sway bar end links installed along with the side and bottom motor mounts. Today was a relatively cheap day as all the parts came from my parts car and were less than a year old with only a few miles on them
I found 1 bad ball joint, one wasted sway bar end link, both strut mounts and spring seats were worn and torn. All old hardware was very rusted and pain to work with. I hate end links with the T-30 torx!!!
Next up is finishing the rear suspension. I will use the wagon's rear springs, New rubber spring seats, anchorage washers and bump stops. 2 new trailing arm links and perhaps bushings as well...they look pretty cracked & torn.
Let the money flow from my wallet and fall into the pit!

Neil, Did you get those bushings yet? I don't think they'll fit due to the zerk fittings being on top. I think you'll find there's no clearance for them

Subscribing to this thread. Awesome car!
Good to see that P0455 was an easy fix. My cousin and I thought it was the purge valve on his car, then they sent him the wrong part. I sprayed some electric precision lubricant on the wiring harness, and so far the light hasn't come back on.
To the point, it was very annoying trying to find the cause of that code.

Hi Russ, sorry, I missed your question on the bushings. I haven't fitted them yet as I am still working on re-building the whole rear-end on my car. I'm probably about 3 weeks away from getting it back together depending on when the back-order parts get here (at least they are now at Tasca).
I don't see any reason why they won't fit as they are almost identical to IPD's including the bracket. These can be fitted without dropping the sub-frame with a little patience (I've done it so many times now trying to rid the IPD bush groan). There is a thread somewhere I read (maybe Volvospeed) where this topic was covered (Google IPD bush groaning) and others have already done this. Check Energy Suspension web-site as they have others listed for Volvos. The one I am using is a generic 25mm bush kit.
Neil.

Even if the bushing with the zerk fitting fits between the frame & sub-frame, how you going to get a grease gun on it?
