I disagree with Pro Parts Sweden: I have their rear e-brake shoes made in Italy, very nice construction. They also make their steering boots in Sweden, very thick rubber, no issues with it.

The URO Parts brand is not well respected among ANY of the European car communities. As a long time BMW enthusiast, I've hear nothing good about them, and we've had numerous discussions on BMW forums about their parts. I bought a URO Parts door handle for my 528i a year or two ago, it lasted a week. Since then, I've had an original BMW one I got in a junk yard, and it's been perfectly fine.
My advice: Change the name, and make sure everyone knows that the brand is now better quality. But make sure it really is before you say that :D.

I had no idea that this thread would take off like it has. That only reaffirms in my mind, if you want it to last do not use URO. Sorry URO, I was just trying to get some information on parts suppliers. I've had some issues with trash parts.

Yeah, that sums it up. I haven't given them a chance past that door handle, but that was enough for me to decide I don't want any of my vital parts to have that brand name.
To URO Parts, if your brand has genuinely improved, I may be willing to give you another chance, but your reputation really doesn't help things.

Lets be fair to these guys. If they have improved, of course, their reputation will improve. Choices of parts and value are always good. What I want to spend on a part on my daughters car four hours away and for my own making a weekly run to the airport is drastically different.

I don't see a need to change the name - if you work with your distribution network to tell people about the changes and bring better value then OEM parts, you will succeed. I think an upfront approach is actually better than finding out Rubber Busch, GmbH is actually re-named URO as a strategy.

In Norwegian, "uro" means worry, or unrest. A rebranding might not hurt. :P

Indeed. :D

This is an excellent point, however. News of the new name would spread like wildfire on forums and whatnot, and then that will surely be counted as another negative point.

This is an interesting thread and, hopefully it will bear some fruit. I have been personally burned by URO brand parts, and Scan Tech brand parts, and other no name auto parts store parts. For the most part I avoid them now if I possibly can. That said, I am not so close minded that I couldn't change my mind.

When I first encountered URO I was actually pretty excited since they were low priced but the fit and finish was excellent. Out of the package the parts look great and they have always fit properly. The problems surface later, specifically with rubber parts. The rubber either fails completely (motor mounts) or swells and gets so soft that they begin to leak or it appears that failure is imminent (coolant / oil lines) and I change them before they fail completely.

I noticed in the photos supplied by URO Parts that they have testing equipment, presumably that equipment is being used to verify minimum standards of performance. What might be very enlightening is to use the parts for 1,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 miles, on a car in everyday traffic, and then test them again.

Rubber is a funny compound and there are many formulations. Perhaps an alternate formula for the rubber would yield better longevity. If they can get the formula right, even if the parts come in at a higher price point, I'm willing to give them another shot and I really don't care what the name is.
