If it makes you feel better, when I owned a Prelude VTEC, it started to burn oil, never smokey it just burned it and still ran great. I got fed up putting good oil into it if it would just burn it. I used the old snythetic oil from my other car, I did that for 4 years and the car ran great. I changed the filter and oil every year. I sold it with 290,000km, still pulled strong - 190hp, screaming motor. If it burns oil already who cares, and your saving resources by re-using something rather than using something new. Its like good karma for the oil you are burning LOL.

Wrong understanding mecheng.

Old oil is contaminated with petrol to some extent and can harm engine because there will be lack of proper lubrication.
Old oil is black and not re-usable for a reason.
Of course that it's better option than to run it without oil,but it's bad option.
Better option is to top it up with the cheapest NEW & FRESH oil than reusing the old one.

My brother used to take my used-up drain oil and run it in his car. Now that's cheap!

Honestly Steve, topping off with used oil just doesn't sound like the right thing to do although it is probably ok.
Here is another idea too: Why don't you change the oil in the Beetle every other season to actually make good use of it?

On reflection I'm changing to Dirks advice on the two lightly used cars. I'm going to change them at 5000 mile intervals which will be 20-24 months, making sure I hot run them every two weeks or so.

Alas, no more free oil. Off course, 50 bucks in synthetic plus filters saved.

Greetings. I just dumped 30 qts. of used oil in Autozone's recycler bin. No way would I reuse. Oil changes cost most than repairs .

Ok, a new standard of cheapness. Had breakfast with an associate in NJ and he bargained the diner down to half price in the fries as they were cooked in oil from yesterday.....so technically used fries..

I bask in admiration....

I would do it in my second car but my ancestry is Scotch Irish and we are notoriously cheap! I used old oil from my car in the lawn mower for years with no ill effects. Sometimes I save soap slivers and press them together into a new bar. I like to buy nearly expired food and go to 1.50 movies. Prudent Cheapness allows you to splurge in other areas.
