$500 is a perfect price for someone you will likely see around town ... :D and congrats on your new one! I’ll be looking for something newer in 3-4 years when the BMW dies and I pay my last, 54th semester of college tuition.

Saying an engine is ruined is really not much information. My guess is they were quoting a new engine priced from Volvo.

I hope it’s fun watching that father son project too!

He said about $10,000 for them to replace engine and fix.
ok, that is crazy high quote, bordering on the ridiculous.
That number raises a red flag for me. Get a second opinion.
That high price is designed to get the customer out the door and not to fix their car.

+1000 on that. Its the cash equivalent of saying "we might fix your idle with a new ECU and software for $1500, but there is no guarantee"

Sure, I understand all that. I had asked the service rep to 'ballpark' it for me. It was not a firm quote, as I had already told him we were not going to repair/replace it.

None of this is true. Look at the cost of a new engine from Volvo alone. I was ballpark quoted $12,000 to replace my T6 engine with a new one. The engine for my car is over$8000 new in box from Volvo. If you think that is bad the V8 is over $14,000.00 yes fourteen thousand dollars for the new box engine alone!

Add the new engine, heater core, labor and tax plus incidentals for $10,000 really is not bad. That new engine also comes with a lifetime warranty. I'll never understand the hatred for our cars dealers? It seems to me not all dealers are thieves! June

June - this is a forum where people re-use engine oil...

But you are right on price guidance - I think they were swagging a new engine.

For a repair or used engine that would be highway robbery I agree. Re-used engine oil is just plain foolish in a good engine. So are you saying there are 🙃fools😜 on here? June

Consider the dealer ship never even bother giving out an used engine install quote, I stand by what I said, the $10000 quote was to get the custom out the door.
