31401351 fits 2005 & 2006 V50 2.4l & 2.5l 5 cylinder. It is clear not what year you have, your profile says 2005 and your post says 2006. Look at the 6th & 7th digits of the VIN number. 38 = B5244S4, 39 = B5244S7, 68 = B5254T3.

As for the green gaskets post a picture of the gaskets. I cannot think of any gaskets other then the O-rings and liquid gasket the goes between the cam cover and head.

When I bought this thing the previous owner told me it was a 2005..I thought that to be true till I got the title which said 2006..SO..the car itself is a 2006..but the engine is from a 2005 S40..only thing from the 2006 engine is the cam cover as the 2006 had cam sensors on both cams..the S40 did not so I just pulled the little cam from the original camshaft and screwed it onto the 2005 engine camshaft then swapped the covers..the green rubber o ring thing came all apart so it was just pieces..but what it is..is where some engines have two sensors there

this one only has the one so the little gasket was between the cam cover and the head in that little indention

although I do not really see why it would be needed.

so..the 2005 engine is the S4 ..bet ya cannot guess what happened to the 2005 by looking at the title.

Ok so the only difference is emissions..INPUUUT! those little receptors in my brain are starting to light up! lol

That is where the VVT Solenoid or the dummy plug goes. Some have one VVT some have two.

The engine from the 2005 S40 is a B5244S4, code 38.

Alright so I got the aligning tool set to make sure this was set perfect..(not sure how one would do it accurately otherwise) so since I needed to pull the little sensors off the end of the cams and could not get to one with the impact I went ahead and pulled the camshaft cover off to inspect the cam wear..I had another set of cams figured I would have the best set in there..which I did..then back together and put the aligning devices in and on..highly recommend them.

Should have it back together today if I do not get called out by the uncle for strong back weak mind work.

Alright got the belt on and ran compression..good news is..well there is no good news other than it speeds up the rebuild..the original engine has no bent valves BUT..ran with a blown head gasket for a long time and damaged the head..it can be southern engineered..but I am not interested in half stepping this project..SO..going to drop the whole mess and snatch the head off so we can see what we have..I am hoping to make one good head from the two I have..I will also go ahead and "overhaul"..rings bearings..alternator idler..then all the question marks will be gone and the old ladies stupid car will be out of my hair!..I kid..I do enjoy it myself it is our only modern car.

Keep in mind you must keep the(cam cover) top portion with the original head it was bolted to. Don't mix them as they may give you trouble with the cams. I'm still keeping up with your progress so thank you for keeping us informed!

What would I need to look for?..I actually swapped those some 10,000 miles ago as the 240 engine was a 38 and the V50 a 39 so it had the dual cam sensors..I have noticed no issues..but do not really know what I am looking for. Everything seems ok with the cover head and camshafts..when I pulled the 39 apart it had leaked oil into the plug holes..not oil leakage this go round anywhere I could see..of course only been a few thousand miles. My machine shop guy made it sound fairly complex to get the valves set right so it will be expensive. Anybody make a gear drive conversion for the 2.4?..lol I can see myself building some sort of shield to prevent this from happening again.

I have read some posts on here where the cam bearing area were machined slightly differently between heads causing issues. If you interchanged the cam covers between the two heads without issue, I would assume both were close enough? June

I will get some pics of them both..the only difference between the two was the cam sensor hole..went right together and no leaks. My daughter is coming over to help so it should go much faster..this will be our third pull...or drop I suppose.
