Got around to this today - I think it was a success! Even with help from my dad, it took me about 2 hours. The oil level was about half-way between cold and hot with just 5.5 liters. I went ahead and added about 5.7 total even though it calls for 5.8. Putting the oil filter housing back on was a bit confusing, because after hand-tight, I continued to tighten with a wrench and didn't feel the resistance get any harder. I kept turning for a while and kept hearing the rubber gasket make noises. Even used a torque wrench as i've read it should be about 18 ft-lb. The torque wrench didn't even register above 0 (it's a cheap one), but it felt like it was closed at the rubber gasket, so i left it alone. Took it for a spin and no leaks. Also replaced the drain plug with a magnetic one.
Thanks all for your help!
