A bad MAF caused random stalling on my '98 S70 NA (mechanically the same as 850 NA).
Symptoms: died at idle with hard restart worsening over time. There was no CEL or code.
Fix: new Bosch MAF.

My 850 n/a had been stalling when I came to a stop with a lot of snap-snap-popping exhaust sounds (that we liked back in the day). Finally, it would start but stall immediately. After sleuthing everything else, I discovered the thin membrane on the flex hose to the throttle body had a huge hole on the back side and toward the bottom so not easily visible. Changing that fixed the problem.
