Nope...ect is not an option for a problem. It's in spec.

There is something about extra (unmetered)air which is drawn into engine by vacuum tree port.If there is no vacuum leak engine will run rich.

This is 2nd day without check engine light after sas delete and still no black smoke from the exhaust, but i can smell that is running rich.

Both o2 sensors,ect,maf,iac,sas system is properly deleted,fpr,thermostat,cap & rotor,spark plugs,vacuum leaks...can be eliminated in this troubleshooting.

Cat is excluded from the upper list.Could be that it's bad,but i doubt it.

Ecu is the only one left.

I don't understand, why do you say ECT is in spec? Did you take it out and measure the resistance values? If the ECT is systematically (always) sending slightly cooler than actual temps to the ECU, that would match the problem you describe, right?

Or if you have installed a new ECT in the time period under investigation, that would eliminate it as a suspect, yes.

Checked last time i was replacing coolant, checked with cold engine and checked when the engine was up to operating temperature.Yes,the resistance.

It would throw a code,it would messed up with temperature gauge(it sends info to gauge and ecu),cooling fans...etc if it is bad.

Ect is fine.Cooling system is in excellent shape.

Injectors don't leak.

OK if you have checked the resistance, then I understand why you rule it out.

As an aside and just to clarify, the ECT could definitely be bad without throwing a code or activating the fan. I am not talking about a failed/broken ECT, but one that works consistently but improperly to send a consistently shifted signal. Like a manufacturing defect or something. A bit of a stretch I know but I was reaching for ideas.

How much have you driven since the SAS delete? The fuel trim levels need to be re-established since making the modification, by necessity, removed the battery voltage from the ECU. I would replace the cap on the vacuum tree, pull the battery to do another reset, and then let the car find its new base reference points again - with the car as it should be.

For the first tank of gas after a reset the fuel economy will always be terrible.

If it is still running rich after the first tank of gas then you might have a front oxygen sensor that is failing.

2 days.According to board computer mileage is allready terrible, according to my fuel gauge too.

Port on vacuum tree is capped when i did sas delete 2 days ago and it wasn't removed it since last ecu reset.
There is no black smoke from the exhaust...still...but my nose and eyes are telling me that engine is running rich.

No check engine light yet,and car is running excellent, apart from rich smell from the exhaust.

I had exactly the same symptoms when both o2 sensors and almost everything which could affect air/fuel mixture back in 2002 was replaced. The car was maintained at a stealership at that time and all parts were oem.At that time, the only solution for rich exhaust (visible)was to produce a vacuum leak on purpose and that vacuum leak was present up to two days ago.

At that time...the only indicator that something is wrong was black smoke from the exhaust and abnormal fuel consumption.Car performance, idling, starting was also normal.

Me too and i can't understand why the air/fuel mix is not ok with factory set up,without a vacuum leak.

Every other car will not run properly with vacuum leak and have all sorts of problem because of it,but mine runs ok WITH IT. 8)

***UPDATE***

I gave up.I drove it a little harder today and the car produced a black curtain when i hit a kick down.Exhaust is definitely rich and since the car is white, black smoke made marks at rear bumper around exhaust pipe.

I opened a vacuum tree port(produced a vacuum leak)reset ecu, drove it a little and exhaust does not produce a rich smell anymore.Board computer is showing a LOT less fuel consumption than in last 3 days.Apart from board comp figures....exhaust smells healthy.

I guess that i must live with this.

I understand that ecu must re-learn and pick up parameters again after reset, but running that rich every time after reset is too much.

Rich condition and black smoke came back today even with a vacuum leak.

Before sas delete air/fuel mix was ok with a vacuum leak.

What now?
