No. I could probably find out. My gut tells me it's not the top of the line ATF.

Who do you fly for? I can't really make out the picture.

Recommended fluid is either the expensive stuff from Volvo, Mobil 3309 or Toyota Type IV, which I bought for $5/qrt. I got almost 10,000 miles out of the Type IV before I sold the car and had NO problems with it. And I fly for Republic Airlines on the Embraer 170/175...just like the Volvo, very electrical...arrrgh

I checked the receipt, no mention of what type of tranny fluid they used. I can call them tomorrow, but they can pretty much say whatever they want. I'll know better next time.

Anyway, on other forums there is a mention of changing out the transmission fluid filter every time you change the tranny fluid. Anyone on here do this? Is it beyond the average monday morning mechanic, IOW, can I climb under the car or is this entering the "too hard category and better to let a mechanic do it"?

I found this website a couple weeks ago, had an awakening of sorts regarding working on cars. I really enjoy my Volvo, actually it's my wife's, we are growing out of it (kid's friends), but the safety record, room, styling, ... and the fact it's been paid for ... I am trying to keep it around a few more years.

I was sad as well and since I am still on this website, one can assume that I miss the ole Volvo, but it was the right thing to do. This is the best website on the internet to help you in keeping your Swede in great shape.

Appreciate the good words on the SLI/CBA, your representatives were very helpful in our case during the arbitration (actually testifying during the hearings). Your pilot group has always been great to have on board or vise versa, I have always been welcomed when jumpseating. It is up to us now to increase out QOL and get away from these petty wages and work rules.

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.

For those of you who have changed out the tranny fluid, can you comment as to the ease of doing this in the driveway, as opposed to on a lift? I don't have a lift available, but some blocks and chocks. But before I attempt this, will 8-10" of clearance suffice?

all the pictures on the first page were taken with the car placed on ramps in a regular garage amongst the kid's toys. I had t crawl under the vehicle a number of times, but found no problems in doing it this way. Once the lower cover comes off there is plenty of room to work on the transmision. Have fun,

I'm working on my 2003 XC70 on front ramps, and there's plenty of room under there. I have enough clearance to use a cat-litter bucket to catch the old tranny fluid, and that really cuts down on the mess. Make sure to look at your lower transmission torque bushings while you're browsing around.
