Oh, & one more important note to me is that there has never been the slightest bit of transmission noise, chug, code, or otherwise until this started within the first week after I did the PCV replacement & replaced the turbo oil return. It seems to me that should be a red flag, but probably just my bad luck. I really appreciate the input, it's priceless!

I will spare you the details of trying to get someone to repair this car. But it's been 2 weeks now and there it sets in a transmission shop with a $2600 quote for a rebuild and I told them that I prefer buying a used trans from LKQ for $325 and them install it for $600-$800 labor but all the shops that I keep dealing with sit on their freaking hands & waste days getting me the slightest bit of help.
Anyway the question is this....I found this trans at LKQ WITH 137,000 miles for $325 or one for $240 with $124,000 miles. The sales person couldn't find another difference between them except I can get the cheaper one a day faster...both A quality and 30 day warranty.
I want to call the minute that they open tomorrow & Order one because I am looking at 2-3 days. In anyone's experience is this all inclusive for a transmission? Is there something else that has to be ordered to fully replace my transmission in this 97 850 GLT automatic FWD? Cause whether or not this place will do it I have to get my daughters car fixed ASAP.
Thanks in advance as always :)

pikngrn,

A used trans is $400 or so. Labor is 10h.

Anyway, xHeart is correct.

I just bought my 1998 S70 GLT with 146K for $2300.
So you want to be practical, the 850/S70 is so cheap now that you can buy a good one for $2000 or so.
Look around:
- ebay
- craigslist
- cars.com
- autotrader.com

Stick to 850 or 1998 S70, 1999+ years are OK too but more headache to fix (ETM etc.).

Thanks but I have personally fixed or replaced every thing on this 850. The transmission would have been sooner or later. Next is timing belt/water pump. I am always on the lookout for a good deal on a Toyota for her, but until then we are all in on this 850. It's part of the family. I just want to know if that LRQ part is all inclusive?

I have re-examine the tranny issues on my two cars, and now tinkering with a different view.

It appears, transmission's proximity with suspension and mount has a tolerance, causing its mechanical to adjust with gradually deteriorating surroundings. But there is a limit to how far the internal working would adjust to million jabs. It reaches a tipping point, giving speculators to cash out.

I would say, bring the tranny back to an upright position, replace the four mounts and strut assembly.
A 3-4 cycle drain and fill, HOT fluid with correct level, drive normal few 100 miles.

If we just listen to what MVS Mavericks say carefully, it would put a smile on your face.

Many thanks to maestros.

After over a month of tranny trouble, I just got it back from a shop that installed the 2nd of 2 used transmissions from LKQ. (Labor $600/part with warranty $485 )Let me stress if you take this route, BUY THE WARRANTY! I did & needed every penny before the car was ever repaired because the first one was bad and yes, they will give you another one but they won't pay for the labor of replacing one again. Geeez, it's been a scary experience for me and makes me want to part with the Volvo because there is no one who wants to work on one in this area. I have had it at 4 shops trying to get this fixed and each one would dread working on it so much they leave it sitting for days without even driving it or checking codes. Knoxville needs a good Volvo shop! The only real one was just as bad because if you are good, then you get all the car lot's business. Until I can sell this 850 for a decent price I am going to continue fixing it up, so I have one or two last jobs of the timing belt, if it looks suspicious at all, I will change that and the struts. So if you know anyone in need of a fully repaired, non smoking '97 850GLT wagon, then message me. I am going for $3000 with new tires, PCV, Stereo, Leather, Tranny, Struts, Heater Core/ Coupler, Battery and a non squealing , fully lit dash. (Turbo in excellent shape too I replaced the oil return on it.)Thanks for all the input!
