Re: ETM software
ALL the 2002 MY turbos have a Bosch throttle also; the non turbos had to wait until 2003 to get a decent one.

Does anybody know what Volvo calls this part I'm pointing to in the pic?
It's between l/F headlight and airbox on our 2004 Volvo XC70. A part number would work since I can't really see the part # on one in pic. Ever since my latex gloves snagged this thing we've had an issue. I found the spring that flew out of it then pieced it back together which in turn worked. She's been running without issue until this morning when the wife took our son to school. Sorry for long post and I'd really appreciate any suggestions/help on this. BTW the DTC is P2111 throttle actuator is stuck open/closed, the code in one stated it was stuck open originally, now it says stuck closed too.

I think that is the brake vacuum booster - it makes sure you have power brakes even when the engine is under low vacuum conditions.

It's the switch for the vacuum pump, they break all the time and if not replaced ASAP it will leave the pump on all the time and fry it

Thank you sir for your reply.JRL wrote:It's the switch for the vacuum pump, they break all the time and if not replaced ASAP it will leave the pump on all the time and fry it
Now correct if I'm wrong but doesn't the vacuum lines from this open/close switch run to the I/M and T/B?
That being said then that would explain my brief issue w/throttle...immediately after my glove snagged the top of the switch off the spring popped out without my knowledge. Right after I put top of switch back on using pull tie to help keep the top on since I broke a tab off. I started her up and the issue was present. I go back under the hood to check the switch and spot the spring on the ground in front of the car. I knew at this point it had to go inside this switch cause it was the perfect diameter to fit inside the opening with the top of the switch pulled apart. I replaced the spring then used 2 pull-ties to hold everything inside this switch and at this point restart the car without issues.

If you mash the brake pedal afew times with engine idling you'll hear the vacuum pump come to life. It sits very close to the front transmission pan cover. Make sure it still comes on then turns back off after the pedal has been released.

What I was thinking is the loss of vacuum due to faulty switch causing performance issue I was having is all.shiloh51933 wrote:Yes it comes on and goes back off.precopster wrote:If you mash the brake pedal afew times with engine idling you'll hear the vacuum pump come to life. I had problems with my ETM, so I replaced it with a new one. The car runs better after 2000 RPM, but the ETS light is still on. Also it I went to the Volvo official distributor for Bulgaria, and they told me that I would need a ETM reload and update, but they don't want to do it, so I bought Dice from ebay.
I installed VIDA, but i found that it wasn't enough, I needed to buy another software - ETM reload. Is there someone who has done this procedure and did it work?

Welcome to the forum!!
What codes does VIDA display? Read the car in Fault Trace menu in Delivery tab and report back in.
There is a guy who can reprogram the ETM but first do you still have the original ETM?
If so it contains the program versions that the new one requires. Read the car again with Vida but this time plug in the old ETM to the loom. When Vida reads car and you get to the Update or Cancel menu choose Update then go to Communication then Network then highlight the ETM icon. 2 x software part numbers will be displayed at the bottom of the list. Each time you connect a diffetent ETM choose Update. Compare these software numbers to the NEW ETM. They will most likely be different on both your ETMs
If you bought a new one such as such as 36050563 it will be pre-programmed and will run but won't necessarily have the right program for your car.
