One good long hot run on the van Wyck will get rid of the gas in the oil, you don't need to change it really. LMS isn't caused by lots of gas, it's just a bit in the wrong place.

I am pretty sure Phil means LMS *has likely led* to lots of gas in the oil in this case, from all of the failed cranking with injectors spraying and the fuel washing into the pan. Gas in the oil is a byproduct/effect of LMS, not tied to its cause.

When our fuel pump diaphragms on our old VWs went they would drop,gas into crankcase. We could actually see the oil level rise.

we never drove them around with cool flames popping out of the motor until the gas burned off...really...

Its a safe insurance to go ahead and change the oil, why take the chance of the oil getting thinned out and causing it to spin a bearing. Its a cheap fix..

For those who are dealing with a P0116 code, I found that there was enough clearance on my V70 T5 to replace the thermostat and the sensor without removing ANYTHING else. In the videos I have seen, they take off the upper cam cover and sometimes a hose, in order to get to the thermostat housing.

I use used a T40 bit with a socket wrench and an extension. I was able to remove the screw and snake out the upper thermostat housing with the hoses attached. So all in all, it was less than a 30 minute job for me. My new thermostat was only $10 and the temp sensor was $40.

So the procedure for me was:
1. Drain about a gallon of coolant using the radiator drain plug. Hint, drain it into a plastic bag and it's easy to pour back in at the end. Tie up the bag opening, cut a hole at the bottom when you need to put it back. Opening the Coolant reservoir cap will make it drain faster.
2. Remove the two 40mm Torx screws holding the upper thermostat housing. Move cover to the side.
3. Remove old thermostat.
4. Remove and replace Temp sensor with 19mm open end wrench.
5. Replace thermostat and housing cover.
6. Pour coolant back in. Run the car until operating temp is reached. Wait for it to cool and top it off again.

All done.

Good job - I think the misconception that all those other parts need to come off have scared some people off this task. I haven't had to do it since my first 850, and that was a good while ago, so I don't remember what I did. :D Your post makes it look like a few minutes tinkering time. :)

Well I do appreciate the heads up. I needed the car back on the road ASAP and these parts arrived from my local O'Reilly's auto parts in literally a few hours! I'll keep an eye on it. Swapping them out again wouldn't be a big deal. Being stranded because of a failure would be a big deal.
