Before you know it we will have you firing these guys and fixing your own car. Brakes are one Of those jobs you can really save money for quite simple repairs.

LOL, so true! I have watched so many YouTube videos on this subject, I almost feel like an expert now. If I could figure out how to lift my car up safely, I would certainly give it a try. ;)

It's about 100 bucks to get the kit to lift your car.

An aluminum racing Jack and a pair of good steel jackstands and you are set.

YES, it was the rear shims! I swear, we all (me and the past mechanics) thought it was in the front. And, the vibration is SO loud, we all thought there was some type of grinding. The service advisor at Volvo knew within one minute what the problem was. He said it is very common in my car (I'm not sure what he meant - Volvos, 1995 or 850 or all), and that he has been working on Volvos for about 18 years, so he knows every sound and nook and cranny of this car. He said that I will most likely have this issue again in the next few years, as the shims don't seem to last that long. The parts were not in, so I go back next week. They will replace the rear pads and shims - all for about $175. I didn't have to pay today, so I think it's a good deal.
Hey....now WAIT a minute! Whoa, whoa, stop.

I was in early with rear brakes + shims:

I suspect it's from your rear brakes. I've read about this issue and will soon be replacing my rear pads as they're down to about 5mm. Note sometimes shims are used on the rears to prevent noise in addition to using brake pad goo on the backs.

Oops, you are correct! I apologize. :) I did not go far enough back in the comment section to see who and what was suggested. gswede did give me a link though, that described what he thought was happening. :)

So, a special kudos to sleddriver! :)

Thank you...that's more like it. :) !

Just replaced my rear pads with new & greased both pads & shims. Only squeeled once while bedding....that's it!

Now, onto the fronts & the outer tie rod ends......

:) My front are all done! And, I just got new brake lines in front too! So, fingers crossed, I'm all done!

I go back to the dealer tomorrow (they didn't have the parts). It was my second time going back (someone forgot to order the shims.) So, they have offered me a free 12 point inspection, which is nice, but I just hope they don't find anything that needs repair right away, as I am tapped out now! So, fingers crossed that all will go well. :)
