Thanks, I knew that I read somewhere about using a 1/2" copper elbow.
The elbow going into the block in your picture has the jog going down, do
you know the part number off hand for that?
Looks like it is 1271653 - I should have read your guide more carefully, the
one I bought did not have the downward jog.

Original oil trap was Volvo part number 1271988 FCP support had this part but
said that 1271650 would work for sure. Installed 1271650 today and it seems to
be exactly the same but 1271988 seems to have an extra plastic shield in front
of it, perhaps to protect it? All the fittings are the same size and in the same
positions either of these requires elbow #1271653 which has a jog in it to align
with the fitting on the block.

It was warm today and I finished the job, while it is good to have it done it does
not run any better than before. It chugs below 2000 RPM, no codes, plugs look
good, compression is good in all 5. Good to know, at least that there are no vac
leaks.
Edit: I was working late to put on the last few hoses and did not tighten the MAF
to TB hose clamps, did them today and drove it, chugging seems to be gone.
Idle is still high at 1000 RPM, going to clean the IAC soon.

Did the glove test today, yes we have major vacuum! At idle the glove remained
deflated and with revving to just 2000 it was partly sucked into the oil fill hole.
