Hi,

Well this would have to be something that is connected 24/7 so that i dont have to run out there every morning. I cant really connect a 120vac line cord out there either so i have to go with solar probably unless there are any better ideas.

Thanks.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hi Al,

A cheap/basic trickle charger is designed to be connected 24/7. That's the whole point. But it is among the solutions that require standard household extension cord.

If you are dead set on trying solar, you could very easily install a cigar lighter plug to the yellow accessory plug, that works when the key is off too. Recall this post of yours: viewtopic.php?t=69527

Should work with your Volvo and it's much cheaper if you didn't already buy one on-line.
From the images and descriptions I see on eBay, that relay wouldn't be adjustable for the wiper delay time. But in your experience, is it?
Yes- I believe it's what's in my car and it works. I have a spare one sitting in a bin. When I get some time I'll verify. I just looked on eBay and there are descriptions of that that say it's intermittent.... I'll double check for you. If the one in my car isn't the one in the bin, while I have the lower panel off I'll pop the one in my bin in and see if it works. Oh, and if it works, I'll be glad to just send you this one if you want it - just pay postage. I'll try to do that tomorrow after work.
Hmmmm is it intermittent? :)

A standard extension cord will last 5 years outside, even more in shade. Driving over it, no problem.

Hi again,

Well we also have rocks in the driveway, some small and sharp enough to dig into the cord so i am not sure how well the cord would work, and also it would probably have to be at least 50 feet long.

But i already have a solar panel that i had for a couple years now i think. I might just try that first and see what happens. Should be interesting if not anything else :-) Wish the sun exposure was a bit better though.

I received the male OBDII connector yesterday but i am going to use that just for monitoring the battery voltage and go with the direct wire to the battery complete with my own fuse rated for low current like one amp or less. The connector hood is a little large though so i might just use the smaller connector part and create a custom hood that allows the center console box to close even with the connector plugged in, as it will then be plugged in constantly.

What surprised me though was that the OBDII connector came with pins 4 and 5 connected together. According to the spec i read, pin 4 is chassis ground and pin 5 is signal ground, and i did not think they would wire them directly together like that, but then i checked my OBDII scanner tool and that has 4 and 5 connected together too. I was planning to use just pin 4 for the charging ground (before you mentioned that it may be risky to use the OBDII connector) but now maybe it wont matter as much because i will just be measuring the voltage from this port. Previously i used the cigar plug but because that turns off with the car off i always meant to switch to the OBDII port one day.

Thanks, and take care,
Al

I think I stand corrected on my suggestion to buy 321 955 531 what was in my S70 was a .99 and not that. Apparently it's the one I mentioned is in a bin because it didn't work (well it works as a standard but not intermittent). Don't know why I didn't just chuck it!!
