Ask them what specifically leads them to conclude the bearings are bad, so you can check it. It does sound like a hose job, would be nice to see it yourself or get a second opinion you trust, so you're on the right path.

I agree with Erik to have a 2nd opinion. I think one may be starting to go, but like you say, if you notice no noise increase when turning either way it is less likely to be the bearing. Erik also makes another great point on checking the brake backing plate has not gotten bent against the rotor. Easy to bend back.
