Good idea. BUT, I just don't need the car anymore. I needed it (financially) when I got it. It just annoys me that I maintained the crap out of it and it died at about 1/2 of its expected life. Not my fault or anyone else's but it still irritates me. Lots of NEW expensive OE parts will be sent to the junkyard. I'll probably part out the easy to harvest parts and get some of it back but still a lot of really good stuff will go to waste.

Actually, I'm not. I only bought the car because it was cheap. I am a frugal person. I'm just trying to figure out how to get the money back out of it that I've spent on parts.

In my opinion, a decent car will likely cost someone $400 per month. It is reasonable for someone to pay $2200 per year at a mechanic to keep a 10+ year old car on the road.

So, in 10 years, if the car has cost you less than $22,000 you are ahead. Just another one of my opinions.

For someone that does NOT have a lift, dropping an oil pan to pull a piston to see if it will run will probably take several hours. One thing leads to another... most people never get those "what if's" back on the road. I could probably pull up 40 threads of people that posted intentions and have never been back.

Yes I'm guilty of trying to stop people from wasting time. Sometimes people don't see the one way street they are going down and someone needs to try to stop them. Actually help them.

I said all that to say this... go big (engine sway) or go home (crush it). A $250 CraigsList posting would not be a bad idea.

I eventually came to the same conclusion but this post was originally about possible alternatives. The car was a $1500 purchase 10 years ago and I've put maybe a total of $5000 worth of parts into. Unfortunately over half of that has been spent on new OE parts in the last three years. The most expensive (other than the continental tires) is the passenger side drive axle that I bought from the dealer for $400 - its only a year old. I hate to see stuff like that wasted by going to the scrap yard.
