Did you cut it all the way around or did you leave a side still attached?

Im a welder but i dont want to risk blowing up i dont know what a rivet is tho or how to use one unfortunately. I may have to do some more research on it. I have some sheet metal screws though

Brianscott, I cut three sides and gently folded it just enough out of the way to do what I needed. Welding in that area world be scetchy at best. I had sealed metal rivets on hand as they are common in my trade. Sheet metal screws I'm sure would be fine for that, Just want to make you use very short ones. Don't want it getting to close the tank there.
