We have had this debate before and it’s unresolved.

If a single part of the SRS faults, is the rest of the System compromised?

No one here has demonstrated access to the SRS module code so we don’t know the answer to this.

Volvo would be setting themselves up for a liability if the code was not Fault-tolerant. Keep in mind, this is Volvo the company whose reputation is safety.

I wonder which liability is higher...failure of an air bag deploymet or an uncommanded air bag deployment?

Err ... a failure to deploy because a uncommanded deployment is an error on the side of on the side of caution.

In the world of liability the manufacturer is completely liable for an uncommanded deployment, whereas a failure to deploy would require the plaintiff to show the lack of deployment contributed to the injury, even then it would likely be partial liability.

I think everyone agrees if your SRS is broken, fix it.
