Yeaaaaahhh... the extra power won’t hurt the rear, it’s all the same stuff that’s in the R. But I guess someone may do that if they don’t know any better.

If anybody buys this, approach with the expectations you will need to correct some Tom Foolery.WhatAmIDoing wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 20:01 Edit: I just received word from the PO that this engine is a HPT from an R, and the driveshaft was pulled to prevent damage to the rear end from the extra power. Not sure I believe any of that, but if it's true...
Pay accordingly.

Agreed. Expect to find some weird modifications. Or a stock engine...RickHaleParker wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 21:00If anybody buys this, approach with the expectations you will need to correct some Tom Foolery.WhatAmIDoing wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 20:01 Edit: I just received word from the PO that this engine is a HPT from an R, and the driveshaft was pulled to prevent damage to the rear end from the extra power. Talked to the owner, Initially offered $500, settled on $600 for the car and the extra set of wheels and tires. I'm assuming the engine is not from an R, though part # confirmed it has a V70R exhaust manifold. I could not read the engine family / serial plate. Betting on correcting some weirdness. Driveshaft is gone into the abyss, but I'm assuming the angle gear was already destroyed anyway. Nothing is finalized yet, but worst case I have a $600 running and driving parts car, and best case I'll end up with a good Turbo '99 S70 and good karma from the Volvo gods.

Clean it off, pressure washer works good. Stop at the car wash on the way home?
Then if you cannot get your head back there to see, stick your phone down there and snap pictures until you get a good one.
The tires on the Arianes are rated 84H: 1102 lbs 130 mph.

Nice! I'm glad you're buying the car, it would be a shame for that to get scrapped. AWD S70s are too rare to junk.

It's not that it's dirty, I cleaned off where it should be and there was no number to be seen, like it was never stamped. I'll try to look again and bring a good flashlight this time.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 17:27Clean it off, pressure washer works good. Stop at the car wash on the way home?

I really didn't need another car, and I really shouldn't have bought another project, but I couldn't bear to see this poor girl get crushed. I'm not sure I'm going to keep. Will weld the exhaust, install new suspension, and see where she takes me.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 17:57 Nice! I'm glad you're buying the car, it would be a shame for that to get scrapped. Definitely clean her up and and fix the problems, it could definitely be a good flip. I know how it is to have too many projects... I have 4 currently. Maybe my S90 will receive a T6 swap in the coming months...
It could be the angle that you were looking at the stamp, the way that it's etched onto the block, it's hard to see from certain angles and if the light it hitting it just right.

Current project list: '98 S70 T5M (forever a project car), '95 850 Turbo, '99 S70 AWD (as soon as title in hand), and hopefully adding a '98 V70 T5M (dream car) next month. I've definitely lost it.
What does anyone reckon a '99 S70 AWD is worth with no issues other than no AWD and minor cosmetic and interior issues, plus 2 sets of new-ish wheels and tires to go with it? KBB values a 1999 S70 AWD with 215k miles in good to very good condition at $1600-2600 USD (that $1k price margin
