The B5254T4 has different internals too: forged crank, different connecting rods and rod bearings. Would probably work fine but risks internal damage long term.
You can also consider a B5244T5, i.e. from an S60 T5, like 05-09. Or V70 but I think a narrower set of years. It's 9.0 but shipped with the same K24 turbo. But in your shoes I would probably try to be patient for a B5254T4, short of digging into it and wading through a lot of reading about what swaps people do with R vehicles.
