Here and WA they nationalized the system 20 years ago. It used to be mom n pop shops. Something tells me the construction and administration of the new system lined the pockets of corporate interests.

The machines used for NYS Inspections are just run of the mill PCs with a little OBD-II reader connected via Serial or USB (depends on age.) Some are even supporting a RF feed for the interface plugged into the car. The support is provided by a 3rd party company and they cost an ungodly amount to purchase. They require a "straight out" internet connection - try tossing them behind a VPN and they get VERY cranky.

If they are cranky over a certain amount of time, they essentially self-destruct. Same with DMV office machines...

Still no update here. Car's been sitting in the driveway. Still purrs like a kitten. Might be time to say good bye to her. I don't want to. But maybe it's time to practice letting go? What do you all think?

Still in Queens, fifteen minutes from the Throggs Neck!

I just found that this is broken. This is PCV related, fixing this won't make the car "ready" will it?

I drove the car around tonight for a little and she feels amazing... I miss my P80.
