They don’t stretch much on my experience. If a cable moves easily and hadn’t been water attacked, I would not replace it

+1 Those types of cables in general do not require replacing. Also, don't remember replacing (m)any on the myriad of BMX and 10 speed bikes. Cables either slipped, broke (lever end piece as in your case) or fray and broke off one strand at a time on the adjustment end till it was not long enough.
