I also took the liberty of swaping out the rubber winter floor mats onto my summer specials. Bring on the shoeless driving with the thick pile carpets in place... 😁😁😁

The new tranny shifts much better, except 3-4th, but 2-3 is waaaay better. HOWEVER! i am noticing a turbo-like noise before it shifts. I drive a NA engine! No turbo! I can't figure what it is. It can't be the transmission oil pump, can it?.

Addendum: Yep, I mean I had this on my previous transmission but it was only ever perceptable from 1st to 2nd when going very slow like less than 10mph., now this one I can hear it even more clearly from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Very slightly noticeable in Neutral and does not seem to be noticeable at higher gears.
The whine is stronger in reverse.

Perhaps vtl has some idea?
Could be slack in differential. Thrust bearing can pick its race and it grinds through transmission casing. The preload in both bearings is gone then, they can whine. Differential gears can whine, too.

vtl was testing an idea if sauna tent pitched on top of 6 feet of snow in 50+ degree (F) weather is any good. Ended up steaming in snow shoes...

I installed a Curt hitch on Greta a few days ago in preparation for a little road trip, where I will be towing a small Uhaul box trailer. Fitment was lousy. On the passenger side the slots in the mounting bracket did not line up with the nuts in the frame rail, and I had to elongate them with a hand file by about 1/16". The hitch cannot be moved side to side, because the brackets fit snug next to the trunk floor walls. Once that was done the installation is super easy.

Next is installing the transmission cooler and the trailer light module with wiring.

Which is the lesser evil? :D

Anyway, for the past month I've had my lower hose pop off. Obviously the loss of coolant started to become dreaded, I can't keep traveling with new antifreeze every time not knowing when it will pop off.
Turns out my replacement radiator I installed a while back has a nipple that lacks a support ring(sleeve?) inside, the nipple has collapsed, deformed maybe even cracked from the hose clamp pressure. The replacement radiator is NRF if I remember and even then I noticed the lack of a support ring inside the nipple before I even installed it. I removed the support ring from the old broken radiator and will try to install it in this one provided that the inside diameter is at least big enough to allow me to fit it inside. Sadly I have no glue with which to fix it in place.
Of course fitting is one thing, it's whether the radiator nipple is damaged beyond this repair can fix.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Correct, it's the Curt hitch. This is the wiring harness with module that I ordered, it's the only generic 4 pole listed on their site for P2 Volvo:

https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Veh ... 59236.html

Should be straightforward to install, but I will report back when I actually get to it.
