If you have a pre 1999 s40, you need Vol-VCR and an appropriate cable.

I did the same on my 2003 S40. The light flashed and went out when i released the odo button, however, when i switched the car off and on again, it was back. Any ideas?
It's OK to talk to yourself, it's also OK to answer yourself....however, when you have to ask yourself to repeat what you just said...then you have a problem

2, Turn the ignition so all the lights come on

3, Keep holding the odometer down for 30 secs or until the service light starts flashing

4, Release the odometer button while service light flashing

5, Turn off and on again to check

Just did that with my 2003 s40
by the way.....why Volvo can't change the programming for service light to go on 7000 miles from last service and not factory set mieage....
Worked for me on 2003 S40.
