One bolt on the passenger side is obstructed. Put the wrench on that bolt. There is no room for your hand to crack it off counterclockwise, as it will be factory tight. Use a screwdriver or pry bar as a lever underneath the wrench by prying using the subframe as a place to rest the screwdriver on. This will crack the bolt free, I hope it described it well enough.
The control arm bushings will be tight, so you won't be able to thread the bolts straight into them as they will be at an incorrect angle. Use a vise grip to bend the bushing into the correct angle so the bolt can be threaded in straight. When you see the arms, you'll understand. Make sure the ball joint is bolted into the control arm at this point before you bolt the arm into the subframe.
For my part, it's on the driver side that I have problem on my C70 2004 with the "4 BOLTS CONTROL ARM" I'm happy that some posters had resolved their problem with the other version, but I think the subject here is about the 4 bolts version...
I did the passenger side last summer. It went well and I even replace some bolts, except the one with little acces that goes right in the oil pan...
This spring, I managed to replace the other side... It's a totaly different story! Three bolts are difficult to access. One of them is easy, even with the impactool... the second and the forth one (if 1 is nearer to the bumper) can be done with a wrench... The third one is my problem! No acces with a socket, and almost impossible to use the "pry technique" described here...
Following Volvo's recommandation of replacing the bolts with new ones, how can it be done??? Will I have to unbolt the torque rod?
