2003 v40 1.9D clutch replacement - special tools required ?

Post by mack17 »

Looking to replace the clutch on my 2003 V40 1.9D I'm unclear if i will require special tools - compression tool and counterhold tool - for setting up the new pressure plate correctly. Apparently, if these tools are needed but not used, the newly installed clutch can start slipping again within 6 months. Doe's anybody know if i need these tools to replace the clutch on my vechicle ? Any guides available ? Thanks

Hi Mack !
You do not need any special tool. I changed the clutch two times.
I also did on Renault Cars. You shurely know that the 1,9 Diesel Engine is a F9Q Renault.
It is not an Swedish Engine. And the complete car is manufactured by Netherland Cars in
Cooperation with Mitsubishi. Many of the parts from this car are also used in Mitsubishi Carisma.
But there is another Problem: After complete mounting of clutch, the hydraulic system for the clutch must be free of air. The clutch mechanism works with an central hydraulic cylinder. This cylinder
is mounted in the clutch housing from the gearbox. When you change the clutch it is also necessary to
change the central hydraulic cylinder ( everytime ! trust me !). After change it is very difficult to get this complet system airfree. You have to press brake liquid from the valve outside the gearbox
upwards to the reservoir. The valve ist fixed with a 9 mm tool. You have to open this bolt on the valve
and press the liquid upward into the system. After finishing that you need a second person.
This person must press the clutch pedal slowly 5 times. Hold pressure on pedal. Then open the 9 mm
bolt on valve outside the gearbox. Close bolt. Release clutch pedal. Then press again 5 times slowly.
This must be done approx 10 - 20 times.
If you don´t proceed so, the clutch mechanism will not work.

Best regards from Western Germany

Stephan
