There are o rings in the wells and anaerobic sealer between the cam top and head.

Hi, Thanks for the reply... I've been taking a look around on the site at other write-ups on the v70 head (in my case 1998 20v)... Can anyone explain what this open hole with the two threaded holes is for? Looking at the rather excellent thread at:
viewtopic.php?t=26864
one can see that this hole on the top half corresponds with a hole that disappears into the bottom half of the head... There seems to be no place for an o-ring etc?? What prevents oil from coming out of this hole under normal conditions as it has a connection to the oiling system? It's a breather? I was under the impression that the "breathing" was done into the PCV system...

Hello,
An update... Before sending my v70 back to the French mechanics who want to bung up oil leaks with corks... I had a thought that maybe the oil is ascending through this hole due to the usual PCV problems on this engine. It's unlikely as I've cleaned it out within the last two years. But anything to find a less intrusive solution than lifting the cam cover... So I did the "glove test" which I believe is to secure a rubber glove over the end of the dipstick and run the engine. A glove that fills tells me that the pressure is building in the sump and ergo PCV problems! BUT... if anything I've got vacuum at the dipstick. Glove deflated and showed a depression over the dipstick. Damn. So it looks like the cam cover's gotta come off again.
Does anyone know the purpose of this hole that's leaking oil?
