I am concerned/cautious about doing this. Any tips on preventing this from happening? Having a hard time understanding this
There is a steel bracket that the intake manifold sits on. On my car there are three bolts in it. One bolts the bracket to the engine block, one bolts a cable clamp to the bracket and the last bolts the bracket to the intake manifold. Nothing really bad happened other than it was difficult to put back together the way I opted to do it.

i suspect that you will find people who do it either way. I you're having a hard time understanding the repair review the threads that cover it step by step. They have very good pictures.A good starting point is the link posted at the top of this forum labeled major repairs.

This is a fairly involved repair for a DIYer. Its probably pretty easy for a professional mechanic.

@mika: He's talking about a heavy steel bracket underneath the intake manifold, it mounts near where the oil trap mounts. Nothing to do with the bolts that hold the manifold to the intake ports. This bracket is not a common problem and not a fragile part or trouble spot. Good to know about but don't be overly concerned.

Every job has little quirks, that doesn't mean you will experience the same ones if you do it on your car. But yes, PCV service is a long job, the many steps are mostly simple but there are a lot of them. Take a lot of stuff off, put it all back on. It's a good way to learn your way around the engine bay.
