One way clutch or pulley?

The bracket on my 2008 LR2 is slightly different than the bracket on my 2010 S80

I marked my bracket (before removing it) to make sure it went back to the same location

The pictures are from the LR2 but I did the same process on my 2010 S80 (I might have picture somewhere, the difference is very minor)



Here is what it looks like with the bracket re-installed (Note the alignment marks, Red Sharpie)

I just wanted to confirm it was possible. I assume you have had no issues with belt misalignment?
I noticed that some people online have referenced a step by step procedure somewhere to complete the belt change. My VIDA is pretty sparse on the details and disjointed in terms of an overall procedure ...any idea if there is a step by step published elsewhere?
Once my water pump and coupler arrive later this week, i’ll dig into this job.

I do like my Volvo and my JLR.

The belt replacement on the XC90 is slightly different than S80 or LR2

Currently replacing the rear main seal on my 91 780 Coupe....not much fun....XC90 is next on the chopping block once I finally receive some wayward parts in the post.

Talked to an independent Volvo shop - they told me they have never seen a one-way clutch / pulley gone bad (other than by a snapped belt that was tangled with the pulley) and suspect that the READ unit is the source of the rattling / grinding noise.
Argh, what a complicated topic this has become.

Toolpusher,

Now that you replaced the over drive pulley and the belt can you give an update on what you found.

1. Was the One-way clutch pulley seized?

2. Did the rattling / grinding noise that you were hearing go away?

Actually I can’t tell. I was just happy that I was over with the job. The rattling noise is gone.

It is probably worth noticing, that FCP euro sells the one way clutch in a kit for the scheduled pulley job.

So as an encouragement to everyone who wants to try it. Just finished today the same job on our second Volvo. This time it took me proximately four hours. So it is definitely doable. Can just reiterate how useful it is to lift the AC compressor out of the way.
I have one question. The cable and wiring wraps have disintegrated on this car. Is that something I should fix or can I leave it as it is?

I just purchased a high mileage xc90 and trying to figure out if somebody was able to put back the ac bracket without the alignment jig. The jig is around $150 for 1 item use

the serpentine belt on mine disintegrated and destroyed the idler and tensioner pulleys, I made a stupid mistake of taking out the ac bracket without making alignment marks (I didn't realized that an alignment jig is needed)

if somebody can loan it for me, i'll pay shipping and I'm in Kansas City.

I did the job on two cars.
On the first one I forgot to put marks, but when putting it together there was no play that I noticed in the bracket that would allow any alignment.

Now for the second job, I marked each and every screw and joint, but it turned out when I put everything together, as soon as torquing up, the bracket just slips in that one original position and all the marks line up perfectly without any alignment.

So I’m really wondering what this alignment tool is needed for.
