My key fob that I had with my '98 barely worked, but when it did, it would flash upon locking only. Not unlocking. I'm not sure if the 850 acts the same, as it uses a different fob and possibly the whole system.

Do you mean locking and unlocking with the key fob? Mine doesn't give any indication I've locked it, and I wish it would. I have to look at the lock buttons, or listen and sometimes I'm too far away to see, and my fob is not reliable for some reason..... I guess I need to disassemble it and maybe clean the contacts.

You might try getting it good and hot, parking in a clean place, and watch for drips.

Alternatively, it could be leaking and burning off on a hot part of the engine. Is there any burned coolant smell?

Also look around for dried white coolant spray/leakage.

Right, like around any hoses and fittings, or down the radiator seams.

Finally properly mounted my front license plate. swapped the zip ties for the nuts as needed and it looks secure.

My radiator would only leak when hot. It was leaking around the plastic/aluminum crimp. It took a while to find that one. My clue was the lack of pressure in the system.
