will ODBI codes will still be thrown ?
Yes, they are read and cleared just like the engine codes only they are read from port A-3 rather than A-2. If you have a bunch of codes read them all and then clear them and see which ones come back after you drive the car again.

ABS codes can't be read via OBD-II with a standard scanner.

I have a 1998 S70 T5 with traction control. I sent my unit in for repair to Module Master, upon return it functioned properly for max a week. I sent it in for warranty and when returned it only worked for two days, am I missing something here or doing something wrong? I have tested all my wheel sensors, fuses and external connections and they all seem fine. Is it worthwhile opening up this unit myself seeing that I have been issued a refund by Module Master?

Thanks,

- Jesse

How are they handling the failure? Is it just a straight refund along with, "Gee sorry about that, it sucks to be you" and you keep the old one or are they replacing it with a known working module?

I've heard good things about them (Module Masters), I know Jim uses them and he has been quite happy with their service. I think you are at a point where you need to have the codes pulled and figure out if something other than the module is bad like the pump or a valve.

As I'm sure you know, it takes a specialized scan tool or scan software to pull the ABS codes. A generic code reader won't do it.

They didn't have a replacement unit in stock, so I am keeping my old unit for now. My cruise, speedo and tach work so that is good. I talked to a non tech person from them and they were very helpful but not knowledgeable. i had all my codes read when I had a vacuum leak, the Volvo guy in Regina said I needed a new ABS module.

I'm not saying Module Master is bad, they have great willing service; perhaps a little more training to their customer service would be nice(to help troubleshoot and to know the shipping policies etc). It is possible my module has a non standard fault which was missed. I think I may give it a go and take a look at it though.

Regards,

- Jesse

Just performed the resolder today... module reinstalled and everything is working so far. We'll see in a few days if it stays. Thanks for the guide!

not having any speedometer or BRAKE or STC light problems anymore, but still have p1618 and p0722 codes set. is there something more i need to do to reset these or is it possible it is a speed sensor? is there a guide for replacing the speed sensor anywhere?

Try clearing the codes and see if they come back. The (late model) VSS signals are all from the wheel sensors through the ABS module. Once the ABS module is fixed everything should be happy again but the codes may linger.

I found this topic after having fixed the module going blindly at it. This post would have been very useful...

I have a tip for those opening the module.

Removing the retention rings can be done by simultaneously rotating and pulling them out with a pair of needle nose pliers. The other system is by lifting each one of the prongs, one by one with a small jewelry screwdriver.

In order to get enough leverage to open the module, I used a 2" wide, and about 12" long ripping bar that I had bought at the Home Depot or Lowes. Inserting the 90 degree end of the bar in between the halves, pushing the bar against the module and then slowly rotating long end of the bar will cause the sealant to rip apart, allowing for the module to be open without cutting it.
