Missed this one, RIP indeed. JRL was indomitable.

I just verified that my 2004 XC70 is included in this recall. Looked it up by VIN at https://recalls-us.volvocars.biz. I will contact a dealer on Monday to confirm this and arrange to do it.

But I have not received anything from Volvo informing me about this recall. I would not know about it except for MVS (Thank you again!). I'm just wondering - what is Volvo's obligation to inform owners? This car with VIN and my current contact info are in the dealer's database due to repairs done there in the distant past. I know for a fact that the dealer has "changed systems" since these repairs and might give this as an excuse for "not knowing" about this car. But that cannot be an acceptable reason for a significant safety recall.

I also read here that dealers are "independent" of Volvo itself. That would also be poor justification for missing a safety recall.

Just wondering.

They are doing this regionally, as the parts required for each car are in limited supply. I spoke with a dealer up here & they are currently not taking more appointments (until the end of February) as all inventory has been exhausted. Also, they are limited to service no more than 4 cars per day. They replace the drivers side airbag components as well as the center steering wheel cover (model specific).

You will get a notification in the mail that looks like this.

I have refused the recall! Volvo is only providing black airbags... So they think they are going to make our cars look like a sleazy body shop didn't bother to get the correct color when installing a used bag. Talk about tacky!!! Once again Volvo is screwing the customer with half hazard repair of our cars. 1st time being my optional car phone and the hideous half hazard removal once at&t quit service... I am beyond upset! I told my advisor he will welcome death if he dares to install anything but a Oak color airbag! Basically don't perform the recall... June

I did receive a recall notice last month by mail. Maybe the cars bought used aren't up to date in Volvo's database?

I was clued in by a dealer employee who knew I would be upset like many owners have been. Once replaced those customers just have to live with it. The parts are not available to replace the steering column, wheel, and buttons with the smoke color as that would look better than the oak with a black airbag...

Wait.....so you're saying that the center of the steering wheel will be black instead of the original factory color after the recall replacement?!?

Also, I got my recall notice a couple weeks ago - haven't had a chance to do anything with it since I've been on vacation. Figured I would call this week.

If I understand correctly, then:

1. Cars affected mostly from the South with high humidity etc.

2. You have to be in a frontal collision with airbag deployed.

3. So far only one person killed by the airbag.
The main question is: out of 100 airbags that were deployed, how many of these have caused deaths?

Yes, all replacement airbags are black only! As far as I know, no P2 car came with black interior option. So it will match none... Lots of owners of these cars didn't buy it new, didn't spend 20 years caring for it, and likely are in process of running it into the ground saving money on oil changes... December 23, my S80 hit 18 years in service. That's a lot of years of care on my part, and in my case I have spared no expense keeping her in excellent condition for 216K and 18 years. It matters to me. My friend who clued me in said several customers were irate when they saw the black airbag. So possibly have a deadly airbag, or look at something tacky. What a choice! June

I stand corrected ! S80 came with a variation of black. I don't recall the proper name. It was something stupid like smoke. I never considered a S60. So RickHaleParker you are in luck! The rest of us are not... June

Addendum; I have nothing against the P2 S60. Personally we both needed the front seats all the way back which leaves inches of legroom in the rear seat. Stick 2 young children in the back seat = setback being pushed. Therefore the S60 did not work for my needs. The V70 and S80 had more rear seat room. If I have missed the mark somehow, please excuse me. I have been fighting illness most of last year and feel awful almost 24/7. June
